What’s the Rush?

Reasons to Act Now

  • Critical to meet 1.5C reductions

The Carbon Budget is rapidly being depleted.

Must meet net zero emissions by 2050 for 1.5C.

Several sectors can’t reach net zero emissions by 2050.

Removal of CO2 from powerplants (CCS) and ambient air (CDR) is essential for 1.5C.

It takes many years to build CCS and CDR so need to start now.

Governments and companies are too slow to meet need of CCS and CDR.

Individuals can act quickly to reduce their carbon footprint to 2 tons a year.

You can have your lifestyle and preserve your future by adding purchase of high quality permanent carbon offsets to your plan.

  • Countries commitments to reduce CO2 will result in catastrophy

The current planned efforts of most countries will results in global warming up to 4C (7.2F) by 2100 (IPCC AR6).

The increases in solar, wind, and nuclear power are significant but not enough to sufficiently decrease the use of fossil fuel power plants to get to net zero by 2050.

The increase in electric vehicles is significant but not enough to sufficiently reduce the use of gas powered vehicles for transportation to get to net zero by 2050

  • 4C (7.2F) global warming will cause catastrophic climate change

Climate scientists estimate that 4C global warming will result in catastrophic climate change, including mass extinction of animals, severe coastal flooding, and extreme weather.

Limiting global warming to 1.5C would result in the least severe, but still significant, climage change according to climate scientists, including more severe weather, coastal flooding, more severe and longer heat waves exceeding temperaures that humans can live in without air conditioning, etc.

  • More time is needed to create sufficient availability and application of technologies to replace fossil fuels

Solar, wind, nuclear, electric vehicles, and decarbonizing industries through technology and innovation will take years to have available at the scale required to end the use of fossil fuels.

Without removal of CO2 from the air through CCS and CDR we will exceed 2C.

  • The challenge is to scale out CDR (DAC) quickly.

It takes three to six years to find, permit, build and start a Class VI well for CO2 injection and about two to three years to build a large DAC plant.

It is critical to urgently, safely, and efficiently scale out DAC as collaboratively and transparently as possible.

The DOE has invested billions of dollars into CCS and CDR and to safely inject the CO2 deep underground.

Corporate investment in CCS and CDR is too slow to meet the demand for 1.5C. One problem is the cost of DAC is very high at $500 per ton on average.

The technology is available to apply NOW.

  • You can immediately invest in your future by purchasing high quality permanent carbon offsets now.

10% of the wealthiest people in the world emit 40% to 50% of the total CO2 emitted every year.

The top 1% of the wealthiest people in the world emit 17% of the total CO2 emitted annually.

The top 0.1% of the wealthiest people in the world emit more than any other group.

If the top 50% of the wealthiest people in the world were to decrease their carbon footprint to two tons a year then the world would stay on track for 1.5C global warming.

Purchasing high quality permanent carbon offsets can be a part of your plan to maintain your lifestyle while preserving your future.
